Lane's 4 Axioms
The 4 axioms that Lane discloses can be related to almost everyone who has a scared place of their own. For me, my sacred place is an area on the James River called "Cobham Wharf". When my family gained this land many years ago, they had no intentions for it to become a scared place nor did I have the intentions for it to become scared the first time I ever went there. This land had to reveal itself to me as a scared place and that's exactly what it did. The first time I went to Cobham, it was just an ordinary place that we owned. It was a fun place to go but that's about all it used to be. As of late, through experiences and encounters, this place has become extraordinary to me. When my family and friends come to Cobham, they have no idea that this place is sacred to me, thus they are treading on a sacred place without entering it. Because it is sacred to me, does not mean that everyone who comes there will see and feel the sacred realm. Lastly, Cobham is my go to place when I need it. It draws me there in times of need but if I were to spend excessive amounts of time there, the sacredness would be lost and it would not be as special. Cobham will always be my sacred place, but I also want to explore and find significant meaning in other places.
