Natural Setting #2

This past weekend was the opening day for shotgun deer hunting season. I woke up early on Saturday morning, packed my gear, and headed into the woods. It was a chilly, wet morning but those are the best days to be outside with nature. I was posted in a tree stand about 15 feet above the ground with a clear view to the complete other side of the soy bean field. I was surround by an army of pine trees and various other deciduous trees that have lost almost all of their leaves. As I was sitting in the stand waiting for a deer to make an appearance, I heard a loud rustle coming from behind me. This is such an exciting feeling, my adrenaline started pumping in hopes of a huge buck about to walk from behind me and into the field. I sat and waited for about ten minutes, continually hearing the noises and still hoping for something great. After a few more minutes, the noise began to get louder and louder until it seemed as though whatever was making the noise was right beside me. I looked to my left and did not see anything, but I still heard crunching leaves, I was still hopeful. I looked in front of me into the field, a deer? no, nothing was there. I looked back to my left, a deer?! nope, nothing again. Becoming a little frustrated and unnerved, I looked back in front of me and guess what was there...a deer?...nope, a squirrel. Very disappointing, but I watched that squirrel gather beans from the field and scurry back into the woods multiple times. I was thoroughly entertained. That "huge buck" I was hearing must have sneaked by while I was busy watching the squirrel...
