In
the appendix of “Image and Pilgrimage in Christian Culture,” flow is defined as
“the merging of actions and awareness, the crucial component of enjoyment... flow
is made possible by a centering of attention on a limited stimulus field, by means
of bracketing, framing, and often a set of rules. There is a loss of ego, the self becomes
irrelevant. Flow is an interstate so
enjoyable that people sometimes forsake a comfortable life for its sake. (pg.
254)”
If
you are not fully in the flow you are not truly connected with God or in the spiritual
moment. The merging of actions and
awareness is everything coming together and you being totally focused on that
one thing, which is what makes flow possible.
You are not worrying about just yourself it is not about you at this moment;
it is about what the experience of the flow is.
You are not being self-centered.
