- What seem our worst prayers may really be, in God's eyes, our best. Those, I mean, which are least supported by devotional feeling. For these may come from a deeper level than feeling. God sometimes seems to speak to us most intimately when he catches us, as it were, off our guard. -CS Lewis Letters to Malcolm
- I think Lewis is trying to tell is audience that the best prayers come from when we our at are weakest because at that point we no longer gave a guard, we can truly be our selves. When we can remove ourselves from society, we can realign with our personal projects, the overall bigger project and the divine. In society we need a shield or some sort of defense mechanism around us so that we won't get hurt but this also prevents us from truly interacting with the world around us and makes it harder to connect with the divine.
