When Dr. Redick told the class we were going on a nature
walk outside next week, I got very excited. Then he proceeded to tell the class
we were going on the Nolan Trail, and I got even more excited. I remember last
semester when one of my professors took the class out side for the lecture, to
me it seemed a more ideal place to learn, in nature. The day we went on the Nolan Trail was an
abnormal warm day, so it felt like we were suppose to be there. I was thinking
to myself, I have ran the Nolan trail a couple times so did I miss the beauty
of the nature? Dr. Redick was showing us all kinds of plants, and pointing out
things that I would never have seen before. I guess that day I learned that
sometimes I need to slow down, and take in creation. I realized when I run the
trail; I’m worrying about where to place my foot next, and not taking in the
beautiful surroundings. In class we looked at how nature and the idea of a
journey can affect your spiritual understanding, and going out on the Nolan
Trail and taking time to slow down and engage in nature was very helpful.
