Mitchell Genovese Phenomonolgy of Prayer 1

The concept of the decentered self out of The Phenomonolgy of Prayer was interesting to me.  The concept is that individual people are not the ultimate source of knowing.  Egos and minds are not the center but it is the social systems and environments that are the center.  People need to have a decentered self in order to really connect and gain a good spirituality.  Otherwise the ego and mind will always get in the way of the spiritual connection.  It reminds me of a lot of Christian teachings that one must put god first not the material world or yourself to gain the most from and the best spiritual connection.  It almost seems like common sense really that you need to let go of yourself and materials to gain a spirtualness.
