Hebrews- Philip Vivirito (Outside reading 2)

I lead a Bible study here for Cru or formal called Campus Crusade for Christ. We are currently going through the book of Hebrews. Which right off the bat I knew it would be a challenge since it is so dense with allegorical language and the style of writing in the book is very lavish. So we went through the first chapter a couple of weeks ago and it brought up the idea of angels, and how angels can help you along in your process of becoming and staying a Christian. Which for me was hard to understand, how can angels help us? I was initially thinking of guardian angels, however that being said I think the world has made angels out to be something totally different then what they are. Everyone has seen the movie It’s a wonderful Life, and in that movie we are taught that ever time a bell rings angels gets there wings. So to me we have twisted angels to fit into our understanding of what they are, and that’s not right. God used angels to send us messages, and push people towards good. C.S. Lewis’ book the Great Divorce, gives a different kind of idea of an angel then what we understand an angel as being. Lewis calls them spirits that help men in their journey in Heaven. I think we should look at angels like that today, as the spirit of God.
