Brittany Moore- Phenomenology of Prayer #1

For the first chapter of Phenomenology of Prayer was eye-opening for me. The way prayer is described is not the way I have looked at prayer. When praying, one is to consider the beauty of God and appreciate/rejoice that He has this beauty. Prayer goes beyond asking. Disinterested delight describes how when one prays, they do not think of what this prayer can do for them. Instead, it is all about noticing God's beauty. This is an autotellic relationship, not an exotellic. Prayer also requires kenosis. We spoke a lot about this term in class, and I really think that it describes what prayer should be. Kenosis means deepest decentering, or a self emptying. For one to really be engaged in prayer, one must empty themselves to God because it is not about them, it is about HIM.
