Brittany Moore- Phenomenology of Prayer #2

The call is not a monologue but a dialogue. It shatters all expectations and has many elements of surprise. Prayer marks the beginning of RESPONSibilty. (Notice response is in the word responsibility) When praying, there is reverse intentionality. This means that you are a part of someone else's project. They are no longer an it; they are a you. Prayer cannot be as sufficient without silence- both internal and external silence. One must turn away from the world and "repent". This helps me see the connection this section of Phenomenology of Prayer has with our class. When one goes on a pilgrimage, they are also turning away from the world, or the marketplace which is full of falsities and materialism, just like prayer. One needs to empty themselves of everything while on a pilgrimage to see what is really inside. "Get lost to be found." All of this also applies to prayer.
