On page 182, Lane begins of biblically-informed spirituality. He starts by saying that God cannot be contained. The concept of God was never hard for me to grasp. Since I was young, I went to church, where I learned that God is always watching, God is all around, and God is all knowing. Despite that, I always associated God with just being in church. That's where we worshiped him, so that's where he must be. I can remember my Sunday school teacher yelling at me when I was young because I'd put my feet up on the pew in front of me. She'd say "this is God's house." My feet immediately came down, but it made me think that God must be home and stay here is church. It was until I was a little older that I grasped the idea of an omnipresent God.
As Lane continues to describe, in the Bible God does the choosing as to where he will appear. He chooses who and how to interact with his followers. In recent years, I've found this to be more and more real. In the toughest times it seems like God is with you. Often times it's the most unlikely place, but you hear stories about how God helped people and how they knew he was with them. It's interesting to hear just how outstanding his presence can be for certain people.
