Landscapes of the
Sacred explains that there are four axioms that describe sacred places. The
first axiom states that a sacred place is not chosen, but that it chooses
itself. The second suggests that sacred places are ordinary places made
extraordinary. The third axiom claims that sacred places can be tread upon
without being entered. The fourth states that it is a local place that
reverberates universally. I honestly don’t think I would have fully
comprehended what a sacred place is without these axioms. Before I often
wondered who made them sacred places, etc. These axioms really helped me to
understand how a sacred place comes about and what it is.
