Ryan Gibson (natural setting nowlan trail)

After meeting with the class at the lions gate bridge and talking about all of the different ways to view nature our class walked the Nowlan trail. I kept a journal and listed all of the various greenery of nature that I saw and my thoughts on it. I was surprised to find however that what really got me thinking was the animals on the trail and their interactions with themselves and me. The first animals I noticed were two baby deer standing not 10 feet from the trail. I walked over to them expecting a quick escape, but to my surprise they acted indifferent to my presence. This made me think of the effect a place has on individuals both animal and human alike. Since the trail is a peaceful place were no one hunts, the animals feel a level of comfortability with humans that is very rare. I also saw two squirrels running around and climbing trees together. It is hard to say wether they were fighting or playing but I couldn't help but envy the freedom they have to run around every day without any instructions from outside forces. This freedom is also available when humans enter into the woods which is one of the reasons nature has a very calming and nurturing feeling to me.
