Kathleen Layman: Outside Reading pt 3

The Bible- written by the people, yet by God; for the people, yet for God. The Bible is itself a a journey. Reading from Genesis to Revelation causes the reader to go on a roller coaster of emotions. The Bible is also about numerous peoples' physical and spiritual journeys.

Abraham, the father of many nations, yet the father of very few. He was told to take his only son to the top of a mountain and sacrifice him. Abraham did not argue but complied immediately. He was stopped before he actually harmed his one and only son but the fact that he readily obeyed God says a lot about his faith and his character.

As soon as Abraham reaches the mountain God has set for him, he builds the altar on which he is to sacrifice his son. After the angel stops him and he sacrifices the ram, Abraham names the place, "The Lord Will Provide." The place had no meaning before this encounter, it was just like any other mountain until the Sacred encountered the unsacred, the human. We see in this story that the place was not chosen, but chooses.

(Referencing Genesis 22: 1-19)
