Madison Setness- Outside Reading
During my research for my term paper I came across many different hiking journals and postings. One of the most helpful articles I found was a three part series on Trail Magic from 2007 by Noah C. Kady. The series of articles were posted in The Record-Herald. What I found interesting about this set of articles was the view presented on the Trail Magic. Not only did the author provide an article supporting Trial Magic, but he also wrote an article against Trail Magic and then an article as an alternative way to show Trail Magic (Volunteering on the Trail). I never would have thought that there are negative side effects to Trail Magic so it was interesting to see that point of view. I also found it interesting to read that an alternative way to do Trail Magic would be through volunteering on the Trail. Removing fallen trees, keeping up the trails, restoring shelters are all alternative ways to show Trail Magic beside having a roadside cook out or leaving a cooler full of water bottles near a creek. The set of articles opened my eyes to more then just the Trail Magic I learned in class.
