Ashley Bowles- "Landscapes of the Sacred" - Radically set apart

Belden Lane wrote in his book "Landscapes of the Sacred," that “…a sacred place is radically set apart from everything profane; it is site recognized as manifesting its own inherent, chthonic power and numinosity.  It is a place of hierophany, where supernatural forces have invaded the ordinary (pg. 43).”
When you are in a scared place you are focused on that particular place or thin.  It is as if the other surroundings are not there or a blur.  In the Bible in Matthew chapter 9, it talks about Jesus healing the paralyzed man.  At that time there we so many people and so many little things going on around and the paralyzed man was lowered into the house through the roof and that is when Jesus healed him and told the man to get up, pick up his mat and walk and the man got up and could walk again.  Everyone was surprised and at that moment everyone was focused on what had just happened and not the surroundings.  It was in that house at the place Jesus was that became a sacred place- a place where a miracle was performed.
