Brittany Moore- Outside Reading #1
The outside reading that I am going to focus on for my three blog posts is the novel Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. Many of you have probably seen the movie or at least heard of Christopher McCandless's story. I love his story so much that I wrote my first paper for this class about his journey the journey that many take to see the Magic Bus. Every time we talk about pilgrimages, I think of McCandless and all the adventures he went on in his short lifetime. Into the Wild tells those adventures. He went on this journey to discover himself. He grew up in a nice upper-middle class family and from the looks of things- he had it all. He went to college and did very well. But when he graduated, he realized that he wanted something more; something that could not be achieved in a classroom or in the workplace. He was looking for himself- for his purpose in life. Doesn't that sound familiar? From what we have learned in class, many people go on these pilgrimages for the same reasons. Is this a question we all have asked ourselves?
