Brittany Moore- Outside Reading #2
The novel Into the Wild is very bittersweet to me. It is so nice to hear of McCandless's journey, but the ending is not so nice to hear. His life was cut very short. He passed away in the Magic Bus that he found at the mere age of 24. This is why the Bus is such a landmark on the Stampede Trail. McCandless's death is somewhat of a mystery. One people think it was a lack of preparation on his part leading him to eventually die of starvation. Others think that he died of poisoning from eating poison berries. My opinion is that it was a combination of both and no matter what the circumstance is, his death was tragic and still is. That is why so many of us know who Christopher McCandless is. He symbolizes the adventurous side in all of us. The side that says to just get up and do something spontaneous. He is the fearlessness in all of us.
