Brittany Moore- Student's Choice #1

One topic that we talked about in class has really stayed with me throughout the semester- Martin Buber's I and thou. We learned about the difference between a subject and an object. An object has limits. The "you" or the subject does NOT have limits. The relationship between and I-you is very different between I-it. In an I-it relationship, the ego can get in the way. You end up becoming conscious of self with borders. In an I-you relationship, the person can get in the way. In this relationship, there is subjectivity. And with subjectivity comes mystery. This ties back to the idea of communitas. In communitas, there is an I-you relationship, not an I-it relationship. That's because these relationships are genuine.
