Cherith C- Outside Reading
One of my new favorite novels is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I
had started reading it about a year ago, and even though it is not very
long, I did not finish it until this past September. I was excited
when it was mentioned in class because it was an eye-opening and
insightful book for me. There are many parallels in this book and our
class. The main character, Santiago, is a shepherd boy who has recurring mystic dreams and a psychic tells him that his dreams mean that he has a fortune. He goes on a long journey to the Egyptian pyramids in search of his fortune and to find his destiny. In the end his treasure was in his home country, where he worked in the fields with his sheep- he just never realized it. This relates to the third axiom of sacred place that says "sacred place can be tred upon without being entered." He lived there his entire life but never knew the significance of the area until after his treasure was found.
