Essay 6: College
(My Choosing)
My
time in college has been filled with fun, hurt, love, hate, and overcoming
tough challenges. I believe that is how life is. The amount of change an
individual goes through is incredible. Just look at how much CNU’s campus has
changed in 4 years. Similarly, I have changed. I have matured as a man a part
of which has included a shift from a very extroverted mentality to a more
introverted mentality. While there is neither wrong with either, some are more
socially accepted than others and in the collegiate social life, one notices
that very easily. I think the most important thing college can teach an
individual is how to accept him or herself for who they are. Often times,
freshman come in and attempt to change who they are to be more socially
accepted and in the long run make themselves more unhappy. Later on down the line, many suffer the
consequences. I have seen evidence of this many times as an RA where sophomores
run into conflicts because they cannot feel comfortable with those around them.
The cause though, is that they themselves are not comfortable around being who
they are. College requires people to accept who they are as individuals and to
learn how to interact. I am grateful for the lessons I have learned at CNU, and
I appreciate all that the school has done to aid students in need. Also, I
believe CNU promotes a very accepting environment compared to other campuses I
have been to. Ultimately, I am Proud to be a captain.
