Ashley Bowles- Journal #3
Going to the bathroom on the trail may not be someone’s first concern when they think about hiking. But it is a very important aspect. After doing research for my final paper, I read some journals on hygiene and one mentioned going to the bathroom. It is recommended that hikers carry a little shovel with them and dig about an eight inch whole and then do your business and cover it back up with the dirt you dug out. Also it is recommended that you do not bury your toilet paper or if you are a female that you do not bury your feminine products. It is suggested that you wrap them in aluminum foil to keep the smell down and put it in a Ziploc bag and take it with you. Your waste will decompose before toilet paper will.
