My favorite topic taken from Image and Pilgrimage is communitas. Communitas is also called social antistructure. Communitas is unmediated communication. You can really feel the union when in communitas. Communitas also requires an autotellic  lifestyle. In an autotellic lifestyle, it is an end in itself. While in an exotellic lifestyle, you make it happen. In an community (which is much different than communitas), there is both autotellic and exotellic. But in communitas, it is only autotellic. When in communitas, you become connected to your surroundings instead of being imposed upon. Victor Turner states that communitas strains toward universalism and openness, it is a spring of pure possibility. Reading this helps me understand that while on a pilgrimage, one must be in communitas. Out there, you have a feeling of endless power. Endless power is a common experience of communitas.
