Brittany Moore- Student's Choice #3

My favorite day of class to date is probably the day we talked about Route 66.

Route 66 essentially connected one part of the country to another. Route 66, in my opinion, symbolized so many things. For the obvious, it symbolizes the journey to a new place. But in a deeper sense, it can symbolize hope. Many people, during the time Route 66 was made, dreamed of a better life out west. They dreamed of making a better world for themselves and their family. Route 66 could also have a religious connotation to it. If it symbolizes a journey to a new place, it could symbolize the journey to Heaven, Paradise, etc. When we first saw the sign on top of that one mountain, that was the first thing that came to mind- the pilgrim left it there for someone they knew that passed away and meant for it to symbolize their new journey to the heavens. But that's the beauty of this class- everything is subjective.
