Colin Huber: Student choice # 3 - Wilderness Dreams

I am writing about a series of dreams I had over the past few years.  These dreams were particular vivid in nature, and upon waking I missed their beautiful offerings immediately.  These dreams all involve hiking or explore a huge mountain.  These mountains are usually forested with various trees.  In the first dream of this sort, I was riding a bike along a road leading up to the base of a tall, jagged mountain.  There were fields of yellow flowers all around me and the wind was blowing steadily in one direction.  suddenly I was running through the forest on the mountain.  I was running, but not getting tired or hurting at all.  I would jump and speed up at will.  I felt truly free and at peace.  These dreams persisted with the locations changing and evolving, but in most of them I'm just running at top speed through trees and past boulders.  In several dreams I am working toward the top of the mountain desperately.  These dreams started about a year after I left Roanoke for college.  I spent the majority of my free time in high school hiking and climbing rocks.  I believe these dreams to be a signal from my subconscious that I yearn for the mountains and trees.  The dreams are wonderful and strange.  The wilderness, once taken into ones heart, will burn through till it drives its lover back into the depths in which it was found.
