Rob Carmel was a native of Maryland, his retirement from the army became effective in July 2013. In July, Rob Carmel just happened to me in the middle of a 2,185 mile thru-hike along the Appalachian Trail. In his 32 year service Carmel, did combat yours in Kuwait, Somalia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Carmel was shaken up in his last tour in Afghanistan when 3 of his men were killed by Afghans. During his hike, Carmel learned to come to terms with his war experiences ultimately helping him heal.
