Collin Wilber - Walk Off the War #2 (outside reading)
In 1948 a former Marine Earl Shaffer returned from his service in World War II. He was struggling with difficulties of PTSD. He told his friend he wanted to "walk off the war." Four months later, Shaffer became the first person ever to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. Shaffer recognized the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of the long distance hike. Since then Warrior Hike along with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy as well as other trail related organizations, they created the Walk Off the War Program.
