Essay 9: Fearless
(outside reading)
I
have recently begun reading “Fearless” a
biography about the late Navy SEAL operator, Adam Brown. Adam is a guy who had
incredible resolve. As someone who overcame a 2-3 year addiction to crack and
served the nation, Adam was someone who had purpose. Even when he was blinded
in his dominant eye in a training accident, he was determined and trained
himself on the non-dominant side of the body. And then when his dominant hand
had fingers severed in a hum-V accident where the vehicle rolled over his
fingers, Adam was resolved to not only maintain his service as a SEAL but to
progress and make it to Green team (a predecessor to DevGRU (aka SEAL team
six). Adam had purpose and that purpose was to serve and protect American
ideals. His example of overcoming odds is incredible and it is a terrible thing
that he passed away in the line of duty. His life is an example that a strong
purpose reveals unlimited potential.
