Cherith C- Communitas and Community

Throughout this course we have talked about the differences between community and communitas.  Communitas is unmediated communication, you can feel the union.  It is just autotelic.  Autotelic means that it is an end in themselves.  Autotelic is more desirable than exotelic.  Community is autotelic and exotelic.  Community is focused on bonding and developing relationships.  It is the everday place we would describe in reference to where we live and spend our time. Communitas is experienced on spiritual journeys because of the powerful community spirit that is felt.
